​He was someone she looked up to and idolised.  And she didn't go to him
for help - not consciously.  Colin read the signs (her reluctance to go
home, her teariness, how startled she was when he touched her shoulder) and
came to the conclusion himself.  Cindy never actually disclosed the abuse
to him - she only denied that it was physical when he asked her.

When children are being abused by adults, they are often told that no one
would believe them, that it is their fault, that they are dirty, no one
would love them anymore etc.  They get inside the child's head so the child
is too frightened to tell anyone what is happening.  Also, I imagine it
would be difficult to trust another adult when someone who was supposed to
look out for you could do that to you.

Colin's theme of "consumer resistance" pretty much sums it up.

One of the best episodes in the series.
