Sarah: I'm SarahJackson, we spoke on the phone.
He gives her a small nod in acknowledgement.
Sarah: I'm the oneyou told two days ago that the sports centre was staying open.
Mayhew: Well that'swhat I firmly believed. At the time.
Sarah: No it wasn't.If you'd believed that, you would have told somebody other than us, and youdidn't. We're the only people who ever knew that the closure was in doubt, which makes me believe that the closure never was in doubt.
Mayhew: Then whatreason would I have had?
Lynda: You wereannoyed and embarrassed at the Junior Gazette campaign. So you thought that youcould embarrass us in return - headlining our own victory when we hadn't won.
Sarah: And how couldit ever get back to you? All you'd done was make an honest mistake, which wewere naive enough to print. A little joke, at the expense of a kiddienewspaper. I suppose you only got worried when you heard we were staying up allnight to change the edition.
Chrissie: Is thistrue?
Mayhew: It'snonsense. Unprovable nonsense.
Lynda: We don't haveto prove it. We just have to print it.
Chrissie: And as yousay, there are a lot of angry people out there.
Mr Sullivan: Orvoters, as they are sometimes known.
