Lynda: You were up for editor. You were short-listed, you went to see Mr Kerr. 

Sarah:  Ialways knew you'd get it! (stops pacing)

Lynda: Doesn't mean you didn't want it.

Sarah:  Ididn't much care either way.

Lynda: That's what you wanted people to think. That's probably why you blew theinterview. But it's not true.

Sarah: So I'm jealous, am I?

Lynda:  Alittle. And I think it'd be a lot easier to deal with if you just admitted it.Let me put it another way. We haven't been such good friends since we startedhere and I'd like to think that was the only reason.

Sarah: We're still friends and I'm not jealous!

 

Lynda gets up.

 

Lynda: Hold that thought.

Sarah: Where are you going?

Lynda: (opens the door) Something I forgot to do.

Sarah: Lynda…I'm not jealous, but I'll tell you this. I'm just as smart as youare, and you can't write half as well as I can. And I really never understoodwhy you were a better choice for editor.

Lynda: But you're not jealous, right?

Sarah: (shakes her head) No way.

Lynda: That's good to hear, friend.

 

She walks out and closes the door. Sarah sitsdown.

 

Lynda: (walking up to Kenny) Phone for a taxi for Sarah to take her to thestation. Have it waiting outside.

Kenny: Getting somewhere?

Lynda: You bet.
