Archie:  (from thetape) Have you got a phone?

Sarah:  (looks atArchie) That was you.  

Archie:  (shuts itoff) Don't listen to this. 

Sarah:  Why?

Archie:  Sarah…I needyour help. I've done a very bad thing, and I need your help. What you're aboutto hear on that tape… is me, phoning the bomb warning to the restaurant. 

 

She sets on the tape. The only thing that's heard islaughter from the café guests. 

 

Sarah:  The laughterwiped you out. I've tried, but I can't hear a word of your phone call. 

Archie:  You've tried?

Sarah:  Oh, I alreadyknew what your phone call was about. I've always known it was you who phonedthe bomb warning to the restaurant. 

Archie:  You couldn'thave!

Sarah:  Archie, I'veknown since the moment I heard the explosion you were somehow involved in it.When that bomb went off, everyone in the café just about jumped out of theirskins. Except you. Now either you've got incredible self-control, or you knewit was coming. 

Archie:  You neverthought I had anything to do with that café break-in, did you?

Sarah:  Played alongwith it, for my own reasons. 

Archie:  And you gotthat guy to come to my flat tonight, just so I'd follow him here. This was alla set-up. You're very nearly smart, Sarah Jackson. Thing is, you don't have anyproof. 

 

He turns to leave. Sarah picks up a hidden tape recorder.

 

Sarah:  I've got ittaped. That wasn't an expression.
