Episode 10 - Money, Love and Birdseed

Watched Tue 06/04/22

Apologies for the break in service, here is my review of episode 10.

I really enjoyed the opening scene. The teacher who chases the boy, looks a
lot like Steven Moffat from the back. It’s not him of course, but that’s
what popped into my head when I saw this scene this morning.

I’m just gonna say it. The actor who plays the ‘thief’ Bobby, is very cute.
I may have watched his running scene more than once this morning. You can
well imagine that he really is a Judo expert. I digress, as usual.
Apologies.

The next scene between Lynda and Spike is very clever as it turns out to be
a dream and reveals, as if we didn’t already know, that Lynda is very much
obsessed with Spike.

This leads into a scene where we meet Lynda’s Mum for the first time. The
actress is called Penelope Nice. Lynda’s Mum is nothing like her daughter.
She seems like a lovely person and has a playful twinkle in her eyes.

The newsroom is overrun with birds. It’s never explained how or why. They
are just there. All I could think when watching them, is how horrible it
must have been with birds flapping about all over the place. The bird
droppings must have been horrendous. I suspect the cast and crew weren’t
too happy with this idea of Steven Moffat’s.

I like the way Tiddler tried to get Lynda and Spike to both believe the
other one needs cheering up and tries to get them to go to a concert
together by a band called the DreadNoughts.

I like the way Billy quickly figures out why Bobby is innocent of stealing
the money, but decides to keep it to himself!

The scene where Lynda and Spike are talking about why Friday is a special
day for each other, is very funny. Julia Sawalha’s acting is off the scale
in this scene. Brilliant writing still needs great actors to make it pop,
and Dexter and Julia really deliver the goods in this scene.

The way that the real thief is revealed at the end, is very clever.

I noticed just now, while rewatching, that Colin mentions boarding up the
holes so that the birds can’t get back in. So they must have just found
their way in via some holes in the building.

It’s a fun episode. I enjoyed watching it this morning.

Only two more episodes left to review in series one.

Thanks for reading.
