Mr Sullivan: Spike was on his last chance when he joined the Junior Gazette. Lots ofGazette kids are in trouble, Lynda. Why are you sopassionate about Spike in particular?

Lynda: Passionate? What do you mean passionate?

Mr Sullivan: Lynda, Spike's behaviour today was quite unacceptable. Unless he is ableproperly to explain himself then I'm afraid it could be the end of his careerat the Junior Gazette.

Lynda: It's the thing that happened at the newsroom, isn't it?

Mr Sullivan: (confused) What?

Lynda: Kenny told you he found Spike and me in the corridor nearly kissing, didn't he?

Mr Sullivan: No.

Lynda: Well he's just making it up and it didn't happen! Pathetic, isn't it?

She pauses and frowns at him, realizing what hejust said.

Lynda: You're going to throw Spike off thepaper?

Mr Sullivan: That's a possibility, yes.

Lynda: Listen, what I better do, you know, just impartially, just as editor, isto put together some sort of defence for Spike's behaviour.

Mr Sullivan: If you say so.

Lynda: Well he is one of my staff. But I'm not being passionate or anything.I'm being aloof.

Mr Sullivan: *Very* aloof.

Lynda: Coldly aloof.

She opens the door, then turns to look at him.

Lynda: So you really think you might throw him off the paper?

Mr Sullivan: If he can't explain his behaviour, yes.

She walks out and closes the door.

Lynda: Damn! (opens the door again) That was just me stubbing my toe.

Mr Sullivan: I see.

Lynda: But I'm still aloof about the other thing, though.
